Pastor Marjorie Hurder was appointed to our church effective July 1, 2017. This month she married Patrick Burhman. Our church celebrates their marriage and wishes them many long years of happiness.
She writes this about herself:
Marjorie Hurder grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She got her bachelor’s in History from the University of Southern Mississippi. Following that, she was a Young Adult Missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries in Salt Lake City for two years. She served at Crossroads Urban Center, spending time in the food pantry and in other community involvement work. She then entered seminary at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. before transferring and completing her Masters of Divinity at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. While at Candler, she interned at the Gateway Center, a men’s homeless shelter in downtown Atlanta and served at the Atlanta Bar Church, an outreach ministry of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. She is excited to be done with school (but never done with learning!) and in the beautiful mountains of Maryland.
